Frequently
Asked Questions
Q: Can the Infusion Spiral be reused?
A: No, after six weeks all oak flavor is extracted. Although
some people take them out after three weeks and insert them into another
barrel of the same wine.
Q: What types of wine work best with the Infusion Spiral?
A: 80% of the wine used with spirals is red wine although
it works great with Chardonay and other white wine varieties.
Q: What is the difference between French and American
Spirals?
A: The French has a more subtle flavoring and a softer
mouth feel.
Q: Will it hurt to leave the Spiral in longer than six
week?
A: No, some leave it in for over a year, but after six
weeks the flavor is fully extracted.
Q: What are the most popular toast levels?
A: Our top sellers are French medium, French medium plus
and American medium plus.
Q: How are the Infusion Spirals toasted?
A: We use a state of the art convection oven. The Spirals
are toasted in the oven under low heat for a significant length of time.
Temperature and length of toasting are kept track of to ensure consistency
of every batch.
Q: How is the flavor extracted so much faster as compared
to other oak alternatives?
A: Because liquids penetrate wood eight times faster
when traveling with the grain of the wood versus penetrating the side
grain.
Q: How many tank packs should I use in my tank?
A: We find that most tank users are looking for a thirty
dose of new oak. In this case you should use one tank pack for every 1000
gallons of your tank.
Q: How many eight inch spirals for home wine making should
I put in my carboy?
A: One or two eight spirals are recommended per six gallons
of wine.
Q: Do the Spirals float:
A: No, unlike other adjuncts, i.e. stave inserts, etc.
the Spirals actually sink into the wine in order to prevent constant topping
up.
Q: Does the rapid extraction tarnish the oak flavor?
A: No, it allows for quicker integration with the wine
and allows you to bring your product to the market faster. Many best of
shows and double gold medals have been won using the Infusion Spiral.
Call for a reference in your area.
Q: Are free samples of the Infusion Spiral available?
A: Yes, if you are a commercial winery, distillery, etc.
please contact a representative in your area to run a trial.
Q: How do we come up with our dosage recommendations?
A: We have surveyed hundreds of winerys and found that typically wine
is aged in a new barrel for 8 months in its first usage. Our Infusion
Spiral will match that same flavor in as little as six weeks.
