Burgundy Blend Infusion Spiral barrel packs replicate a barrel toasting gradient using a mix of three different toasts. Predominantly light and medium toasts--with a hint of medium plus--the Burgundy Blend creates a low impact oak alternative that respects delicate, oak-sensitive fruit and quietly contributes an elegant and mild background of premium French oak. This multi-toast pack eliminates the need to blend separate barrels aged with different toasts.
Complexity is aged in each barrel.
BURGUNDY BLEND INFUSION SPIRAL Barrel Packs give winemakers new premium French oak in neutral barrels, calibrated to treat 59 to 70-gallons. When inserted through the barrel bung hole the pack releases fresh, new-barrel, toasted oak aroma and flavor through its patented and space-efficient spiral-cut design with virtually all aromas and flavors fully extracted in six to eight weeks rather than eight to 12 months typically needed to extract from a new oak barrel -- but at a small fraction of the price. With continued contact in wine, flavors will further integrate into the wine and more rounded tannins will form.
As with standard, single-toast Infusion Spiral Barrel Packs, Burgundy Blend sets consist of six individual spirals precision-carved out of 9-inch long cylindrical segments of premium grade stave wood, contained and linked together by food-grade nylon mesh that permits wine to freely contact all surfaces of each spiral. The mesh also enables easy insertion and removal of the pack through a standard bung hole. The innovative spiral design creates an optimal ratio of side grain and cross grain exposure, giving the wine extracted complexity in less time than any other thru-bung premium oak alternative. Each Burgundy Blend pack consists of two light toast spirals, three medium toast and one medium plus, all convection-oven toasted to insure consistency and uniformity.
